Message initial:
CLEAR CHANNEL'S CONTINUUM SNEAK PEEK AIRS NATIONWIDE TOMORROW (8/24) ON THE FIRST DAY OF JOHN MAYER/SHERYL CROW CO-HEADLINING TOUR
(New York, NY - August 21, 2006) -- John Mayer will debut his upcoming album, Continuum, in its entirety with his own radio special on Wednesday, August 23 on Star 98.7 FM in Los Angeles at 5:30pm (PST). On Thursday, August 24th, Clear Channel Radio's Online unit will offer the entire "Continuum" CD On Demand through its online program, "Sneak Peek." The exclusive CD stream will be available on over 180 Clear Channel Radio station websites for one week starting tomorrow. (Log on to clearchannelmusic.com for more details). While Continuum's first single, "Waiting On The World To Change," is already racing up radio and online charts - the rest of the soul, pop, and blues influenced album has remained a mystery, until now. Mayer tipped fans off on johnmayer.com about his intent to reveal his new material intact.
"Isn't it strange how these days, the last thing you hear by a band is their record?" he posed. "Not this boy. I want you to hear my new music the old fashioned way. On the radio."
An artist "leaking" their album is unconventional by current standards, but not at all out of line for an artist with a track record of creative forms of self-expression. From music and art side-projects, to genre-crossing collaborations, to his pursuit of creative writing online and in print, John Mayer's evolution as an artist has been well documented.
The Continuum "leak" hits the airwaves as Mayer kicks off a North American tour on August 24 starting in Pittsburgh, PA. He'll co-headline a series of dates with Sheryl Crow throughout the fall and will also perform at the Austin City Limits Festival and the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival in September and a date with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers in October.
Over the past five years, John Mayer has sold over eight million albums (Room For Squares, Heavier Things) and won three Grammy Awards, including the Grammy for Song of the Year with "Daughters". In 2005, Mayer formed the John Mayer Trio with legendary studio musicians Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino and released the highly-praised live album, TRY! in November '05.
John Mayer's third studio album, Continuum, (Aware/Columbia Records) will be released on September 12.
